Police said her manager reported discovering her body at her home at around 3:21 p.m. claiming that the star committed suicide due to acute depression.
Sulli last spoke with her manager at 6:30 p.m. Sunday but could not be reached afterwards. He went to her home south of Seoul and found her body on the second floor. She did not leave a suicide note.
Police apparently found a diary but declined to comment on the contents.
Sulli debuted by playing a little princess in a TV drama in 2005 and went on to become a member of the girl band F(x) in 2009. The band, which was part of the SM Entertainment stable, rose to popularity alongside Girls' Generation and 2NE1.
Sulli became a target of cyberbullying in 2014 after she started dating rapper Choi Ja, who was 14 years her senior and recently stirred up controversy after a photoshoot with photographer Rotta, who has been jailed for sexually harassing a model.
Korea's censorious online community were even more outraged when Sulli during a YouTube broadcast last month accidentally revealed a part of her breast.
