Boy-Meets-Girl Cartoon and Apartment, works by Kang Full (32), a Korean cartoonist who is responsible for many cartoon manias in Korea, have advanced into the French market.
Munhaksegye Publishing Co., the company that published Kang's cartoon works, announced last December 11 that it had already published Apartment Vol. 1 last month in France, and that it would publish Apartment Vol. 2 early next year.
Apartment was released in France by the French publisher CASTERMAN, an international leader in the cartoon and children's book market that is well known for its Tintin comic-book series.
CASTERMAN has also signed a contract for Kang's Boy-Meet-Girl Cartoon and A Fool. It agreed to pay Kang 6,000 Euros for each of these two works (about 7.3 million Korean won), and is negotiating the publication of Timing, another work by the cartoonist.
Kang's works have advanced into Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and China. France is the fifth country where his cartoons have been released.
"Though Apartment has been released only recently, it has been received enthusiastically by the French market. In fact, we have already received calls from two production outfits that are interested to make a film based on the cartoon", said Munhaksegye. "CASTERMAN informed us that it wants to release all of Kang's works".
There are also reports that CASTERMAN is considering to offer Kang's works to companies providing mobile services.
"I am pleased that the French market favors my work. I thought Apartment appeals only to the Korean sensibilities, but I am happy that it also appeals to the sensibilities of the French", said Kang in an interview with Yonhap News. "My next work is due to come out sometime in March next year. It will be either the sequel of Boy-Meets-Girl Cartoon or a horror cartoon".
