Kim Hyun-joong's Accuser Stands in Appeal Trial

The troubles regarding singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong's ex-girlfriend A, who has been accused of attempting fraud and defamation, continues.

In the eastern district court of Seoul, the first appeal against A, who was charged with defamation and attempted fraud, proceeded.

On the day of the trial, the prosecutor's objection to the first case and the reason for the appeal of A was that there was willful negligence by the defendant and the purpose of saving the pictures was for slander, so there is plenty of reason to say there was purpose of defamation. Considering the victim's amount of damage, the ruling wasn't fair.

The prosecutors required a heavier sentence on the defendant saying, "She'd never been pregnant nor did she have a miscarriage. However, interviewing with the press that she did is obviously illegal behavior".

On the other hand, the counsel claims the ruling of the first case was wise and demanded dismissal of appeal.

The prosecutors requested to change defamation by publications to general defamation.

The next trial is happening on the 28th of August at 3PM.

In April 2015, A filed a lawsuit against Kim Hyun-joong for damages of 1.6 billion won. However, the trial court handed over Kim Hyun-joong's claim at the 1st trial in September last year. The court ruled for A to give Kim 100 million won. However, both sides objected to the ruling and appealed.

The prosecution also accused A of attempting to commit fraud based on the ground of evidence that her claims of miscarriage by abuse in May and December of 2014 were false. In addition, A was accused of allegedly distributing false facts by providing manipulated Kakao Talk conversations to reporters when the case turned against her and was charged with defamation.

The court judged A as guilty only on fraud and ordered a fine of 5 million won, but the prosecution rejected the appeal in recent March.
