CJ/CGV disclosed the attendance figures for September. Korean films accounted for 54% of the market share, according to Korea's major cinema chain. Local films "The Divine Weapon" and "Rough Cut" were instrumental in reaching the percentage.
However, he total spectator number of 1.9 million is relatively low in September. One of the factors is the short Chuseok holiday which coincided with a weekend this year. Traditionally, the major holiday Chuseok means a significant boom for cinemas.
The market share of local films rose 11% compared to August, but the overall figure of viewers is down by 38%. The first nine months recorded 117 million ticket sales, 5.4% less than last year.
