Actor Lee Ga-sub who appeared in MBC's Friday-Saturday drama "Black Out" met with Sports Today at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 8th to discuss the work.
"Black Out" is a dramatized adaptation of Nele Neuhaus' hit novel "Death to Snow White" to suit the situation in Korea. It is a backtracking crime thriller about Go Jeong-woo (Byun Yo-han), who becomes a murder convict after being named the culprit of a mysterious murder case where the body has not been found, revealing the truth of the day 10 years later.
Lee Ga-sub plays the twin brothers Hyeon Geon-oh and Hyeon Soo-oh, sons of the police chief Hyeon Goo-tak (Kwon Hae-hyo). He perfectly portrayed two characters, Hyeon Geon-oh, a friend of Go Jeong-woo, who is suffering from guilt due to his weak personality, and Hyun Hyun-oh, a younger brother who suffers from autism spectrum.
Regarding his feelings about playing the two-person role, Lee Ga-sub said, "I think the character of the two-person role is something that many people want to try. It's a role that I couldn't play even if I wanted to. I could think more and was afraid when I saw the character, but I think I started with the thought that it's all or nothing".
Regarding whether there was any difficulty in playing twins, Lee Ga-sub said, "I was Geon-oh with glasses and Soo-oh without them. Also, I don't think I was confused because the seniors noticed right away. However, it seems that it was a little difficult to express the feelings that I couldn't express because of Geon-oh's guilt, frustration, fear, and pressure from the outside. I thought it would be a little difficult to act because the two had similar feelings about the incident, but I thought it was different. It might look the same externally, but I should have expressed it differently".
He also explained the difference between Geon-oh and Soo-oh. "I thought there was a gap between characters, so I talked a lot with the director about external objects, such as wearing glasses, having different hairstyles, and changing costumes", Lee Ga-sub said. "I thought these movements like shaking hands and the way Geon-oh and Soo-oh looked at things was different".
"In the case of Geon-oh, he looks into the person's eyes directly to say what he wants to say, but Soo-oh often avoids looking into the eyes. But since they are twins, I thought there should be an intersection. When Geon-oh wants to say something clearly, I thought I should make the eyes similar when Soo-oh conveys it", he explained.
