Mother Named 2009 Press Favorite

Korea's well-known name-brand director Bong Joon-ho won top accolades from the Korean press with his fourth feature "Mother - 2009" named 2009 Film of the Year. The award was recently launched last month in an inaugural ceremony by the association of Korean film journalists. Mother lead Kim Hye-ja also won Best Actress honors.
A best actor nod went to top thesp Song Kang-ho for his role in fellow auteur Park Chan-wook's "Thirst", while a New Discovery prize was handed to actor-director Yang Ik-june for indie-sensation and Rotterdam Tiger winner "Breathless".
Launched in February 2009, the film journalist's association includes 31 major broadcasters, newspaper dailies and magazines. Fifty-four representative journalists took part in the selection and voting process for the winners.
