Park Jung-ah Raises Awareness of Bangladesh Poverty

Actress Park Jung-ah went on a one-week trip to Bangladesh from June 13 to 19 to help mothers and infants suffering from malnutrition. After meeting children in a camp for the poor in Dhaka on June 17, she said with tears in her eyes, "These children have nothing but a rubbish heap".

Park began to take an interest in voluntary work after hosting a TV program aimed at helping starving children in 2008. At first, she thought her voluntary activities would be temporary, but she became determined after travelling to Ethiopia with evangelical charity World Vision International in 2009.

She said she saw hope in the eyes of children suffering severe poverty. "We cannot make them rich, but we can provide them with the minimum necessary for life including sending them to school and to the hospital when they are sick", she added.
