Korean content has become one of the world's most exciting cultural exports, spanning dramas, variety shows, films, and K-POP. Among them, television dramas have especially captured global audiences with their emotional depth and addictive storytelling. Leading entertainment company CJ ENM is at the center of the global K-Content wave and has brought some of the most talked-about hits to viewers worldwide.

Now, these stories are resonating strongly in India as well, reaching audiences both through streaming platforms and locally adapted remakes. Most notably, they are performing exceptionally well on OTT platforms. In 2024, "Queen of Tears", produced by Studio Dragon, dominated Netflix India's Top 10 Global Non-English Shows for an impressive 10 consecutive weeks from March to May 2024. Meanwhile, "Marry My Husband", also produced by Studio Dragon, became a massive hit on Amazon Prime Video. According to FlixPatrol, it debuted at No. 6 on the global Weekly Top TV Shows and ranked within the Top 10 across more than 100 regions, showing strong traction among Indian viewers as well.
CJ ENM's romance dramas, in particular, have been striking a chord with Indian audiences. In 2024, "Lovely Runner" secured a spot in Netflix India's Top 10 for three consecutive weeks in August 2024, joining the earlier successes of "Queen of Tears" and "Marry My Husband". Looking back at 2023, Crash Course in Romance remained in the Top for 33 days between January and March, while "Castaway Diva" and "Alchemy of Souls" also captured viewers' attention. These results highlight that CJ ENM's romance-driven storytelling is not just a passing trend but a consistent favourite in the Indian market.
At the same time, K-Content has been making its mark in India in diverse forms beyond original Korean productions. Locally adapted remakes based on CJ ENM's original IPs have also seen remarkable success. Duranga, the remake of "Flower of Evil", drew over 20 million views on ZEE5 and returned with a second season, while Gyaarah Gyaarah, adapted from "Signal", quickly became one of the platform's most-watched shows in 2024. These hits prove that CJ ENM's storytelling resonates not only in its original form but also through remakes that blend K-Drama emotion with Bollywood flair.
CJ ENM is preparing for long-term partnerships with local platforms and broadcasters. The company also plans to step up localization efforts so that Indian audiences can enjoy K-Content more easily in their own languages.
Sebastian Kim, VP of International Content Business at CJ ENM, said "Indian viewers connect deeply with the emotions and characters in Korean content, and we have seen this through the remarkable reception of our dramas on major platforms. India is one of the fastest-growing entertainment markets in the world, and we consider it a key region for the future of K-Content. Moving forward, we will not only continue to bring our original stories to Indian audiences but also strengthen partnerships with local platforms and broadcasters. In addition, we plan to accelerate localization efforts so that more audiences here can fall in love with CJ ENM stories in a way that feels natural and familiar. Our ultimate goal is to build a long-term cultural bridge between Korea and India through the power of storytelling".
