Psy's New Song with Snoop Dogg Earns Mixed Reviews

PSY unveiled the music video for his new song "Hangover" via YouTube on Monday. The five-minute song features Snoop Dogg rapping along with PSY. Filmed in Korea, it garnered over 1.9 million clicks in less than a day.

The video focuses on Korea's drinking culture and various hangover cures, with most of the lyrics in English and some sung in Korean.

Starting with a scene of PSY throwing up in a toilet, it shows the rapper and Snoop Dogg having hair-of-the-dog drinks to relieve their hangovers, eating cup noodles and bathing in a sauna.

Foreign media clearly see the funny side of the video, although reviews of the song have been mixed. Billboard called it "amusing", while AFP said the rapper "eschews the giddy K-Pop arrangements of his 2012 megahit [Gangnam Style] for more minimalist hip-hop beats". The Wall Street Journal described the reaction to the song on social media as being "a little queasy".

"The song is based on a hip-hop beat that originated in the early 2000s in the southern U.S., and its overall composition doesn't sound bad", said music critic Kim Bong-hyun.

Kim Jak-ga, another critic, said the song has fallen short of expectations in the U.S. market. He also pointed out that it "lacks addictive refrains and impressive dance moves".
