The arrest warrant that had been issued for entertainer Shin Jung-hwan (36) by the International Crime Investigator in the National Police Agency who has investigated Shin's allegation of gambling overseas was dismissed on April 4.
Head judge Kim Hwan Soo, who has taken charge of determining the validity of the warrant issued to Shin Jung-hwan before actual imprisonment, explained why he dismissed the arrest warrant issued by the prosecutor, saying, "His crime allegation remains, but I had take into account the facts that he needs rehabilitation after a surgical operation on his leg; he seems to have difficulty in living in jail, and there is no possibility of destroying evidence". Shin emerged from the Jongro Police Station in a white shirt and jeans at around 8 pm while using crutches and he never answered any questions from new reporters, and he left the place after only saying "I am sorry". A person from the Seoul District Prosecutor's Office said, "We will review this case internally and decide whether we will reissue the arrest warrant or not". Police have investigated Shin for his allegation that he gambled at a hotel in Cebu, Philippines from August until September last year while betting as much as 210 million won. Shin Jung-hwan had stayed in foreign countries such as Nepal and was arrested by the police as soon as he came back to Korea last January. The police began investigating him after arresting him, but he had been released after two days because he needed to undergo a surgical operation on his leg, which he had injured in the past in a car accident. So Shin has been investigated without physical detention. The police is now thoroughly investigating Shin to find out whether he had also gambled in other places besides Cebu.
