Sin Hae-cheol's Family Sue Hospital for W2.3 Billion

The family of rocker Sin Hae-cheol have filed a W2.3 billion malpractice suit against the doctor who operated on the singer before he died (US$1=W1,184).

According to legal sources on Tuesday, three members of Shin's family filed the lawsuit at a Seoul district court against Kang Se-hoon, the doctor, as well as the insurance company that handled the case.

The lawsuit was expected when Shin's family sought to secure around W2 billion worth of debentures at a bankruptcy court in March of this year as the doctor filed for debt relief due to the clinic's deteriorating finances.

But the bankruptcy court rejected the request saying there is little chance that the hospital can be rehabilitated, which prompted Shin's family to file a separate civil suit.
