The final episode of the MBC drama "Gyebaek" showed the final battle between Kim Yoo-sin (Park Sung-woong) and his 50,000 Shilla soldiers and Gyebaek's (Lee Seo-jin) 5,000 Baekjae soldiers.
The Baekjae's defeat was almost certain, but the desperately fighting army had won four times at Hwangsanbol and Gyebaek's murder of his wife and children played a big role. His wife Cho-yeong (Hyomin) called for death as she said, "You have to kill me before you go to war". The news that Gyebaek had killed his family was a morale boost for the soldiers.
The Shilla's fighting was also intense. As they were no match for just 5,000 soldiers, Hwa-rang stepped forward. If young Hwa-rang lead the soldiers and faced death, the morales of the Shilla soldiers were bound to be lifted.
Gwan-chang runs into the Baekjae army but Gyebaek realizes what's going on and lets him live. He manages to save his life and returns to the Shilla base but a Baekjae soldier who lost his son to the Shilla kills him, and the Shilla morale is boosted.
