"Squid Game" Confirms Season 2

Netflix's "Squid Game", which received worldwide love last year, will return with "Squid Game - Season 2".

On the 13th, director Hwang Dong-hyuk officially announced the production of "Squid Game - Season 2" on Netflix, saying, "A new game will begin".

"It took 12 years to bring the first season of "Squid Game" last year", Hwang said. "But it took only 12 days for "Squid Game" to become the most popular Netflix series ever".

"And now Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming", he said. "The man in the suit guy with ddakji might be back back. You will also be able to meet Young-hee's boyfriend Cheol-su", he hinted.

Director Hwang added, "Join us once more for a whole new round".

In an earlier interview with foreign media, he expressed his wish, saying, "I hope that the work can be released on Netflix by the end of 2024".

"Squid Game" tells the story of people who risk their lives for 45.6 billion won in prize money. The series topped the list of Netflix TV shows for 46 days from September 23rd to November 7th last year, recording more than 1.65 billion hours of viewing time, making it the most successful series in Netflix history.

It won the best feature film award at the 31st U.S. Independent Film Awards for the first time in Korean dramas, and Oh Young-soo who played Oh Il-nam who turned out to be the game designer, won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 79th Golden Globe Awards. Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon each set a record for receiving the male and female lead award as non-English speaking drama actors at the American Actors Guild Awards.
