Time Asia edition selects PIFF as the best film festival in Asia.

Time Asia edition has selected the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) as the best film festival in Asia.

The magazine has selected the highest place and events by parts such as three parts of "Best for Your Soul, "Best for Your Body", and "Best for Your Mind".

Among them, PIFF was selected as the best film festival in the part of the "Best for Your Mind" that introduced the ones to be able to experience the most phantastic in Asia.

Time magazine has inserted an article to introduce PIFF along with the opening photo of the 9th PIFF film festival, describing that Pusan is full of many things to deserve seeing.

In an interview with the magazine, executive committee president Kim Dong-ho of the 9th PIFF said: "If Seoul is losing the city's attraction, Pusan is still a romantic harbor city".

Time Asia edition points out that such an attraction has contributed for PIFF to taking root as a mecca of Asia movie.

Time Asia edition reported: "In Pusan known as a port city filled with containers, PIFF, the most important film festival in Asia, takes place during one week in October every year. A total of 160,000 audience have visited Pusan to see 262 films including 40 world premiers at the late 9th film festival held last month".

The 9th PUSAN International Film Festival which was held from October 7th through October 15th, 2004 has screened 266 films from 63 countries: the most number of films from the most number of countries in the history of PIFF.

The most important film festival in Asia

There were 58 films from Korea, 102 from Asia, and 106 from outside Asia. 14 Asian countries including Korea, and 48 countries outside of Asia have participated at the 9th PIFF.

Out of 266 films, 39 films were world premieres. The increased number of world premiere reflects the festival's increasing significance in the world. With 16 films as international premieres (shown for the first time outside the country of origin) and 50 as Asia premieres, PIFF truly has become the best showcase of Asian cinema.

There were 9 sections in total: 46 films from 13 countries for "A Window on Asian Cinema", 12 films from 8 countries for "New Currents", 13 films for "Korean Panorama", 51 films from 42 countries for "World Cinema", 74 films from 28 countries for "Wide Angle", 7 films from 8 countries for "Open Cinema", and 10 films from 9 countries for "Critics' Choice".
