Veteran actor Twist Kim passes away

Veteran actor Twist Kim (real name Kim Han-seop) passed away Tuesday of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 74.
Kim had been receiving treatment for the past four years after hurting his head during a performance in September 2006. It was a rough period for him as he underwent three brain operations and even went under the knife for lung complications.
"My father was unable to move or speak for three years and lay still on his hospital bed", Yonhap News quoted Kim's son, Jun-hong, as saying. "He shed tears when he passed away this morning".
The late actor made his big screen debut in the 1962 film "A Man From Tokyo", and rose to stardom through "The Barefooted Young" (1964), in which he starred opposite Kang-Shin Sung-il and showcased the twist ― hence his screen name Twist.
He became known as a quirky and comical supporting actor and appeared in some 160 films during the '60s and '70s, such as "I Will Be a King for the Day" (1966) and "A Soldier Speaks After Death" (1966).
Also a talented singer, he released several albums and became a regular on show programs, showing off his singing/dancing skills and knack for humorous jokes.
In the early 2000s however a pornographic website that used his screen name as its domain appeared. As rumors spread that he ran the website he suffered from depression and even attempted suicide. The incident came to a close after he sued the website operator.
Meanwhile he starred in the 2000 movie "Picture Diary" and the 2005 TV series "The Barefooted Young".
He is survived by his wife, son Jun-hong and daughter Yeong-sin. The funeral hall for Kim has been set up at Hanil General Hospital in Ssangmun-dong.
