Wednesday-Thursday Dramas Drops to the Ground at 2% Viewership

The situation is bad with Wednesday-Thursday dramas. They barely make it pass 2%. There's talk about abolishing the dramas altogether.

MBC is especially serious. The 16-episode "Find Me in Your Memory" has put forward a special measure, staying at an average viewer rating of 3%. MBC removed 16-episode dramas and began to deploy short series with four episodes and twelve episodes. The plan was to compete in quality rather than length.

However, the result was a failure. The 12-episode "Kkondae Intern" managed to stay at 4-5% but the following "She Knows Everything" ended with a low viewership of 2.5%. The latest drama "CHIP-IN", also a 12-episode drama, started with 3.9% but dropped to 2.8% in just four episodes.

Other broadcasting stations also have it bad. The JTBC drama "Was It Love" is on its eighth episode now but it fails to surpass 2.2%.

KBS 2TV "Into The Ring" is also below expectations. The highest record it has so far is 3.7% in ten episodes and that's about it.

Lee Joon-ㅎi and Moon Chae-won's tvN drama "Flower of Evil" started with 3.4% but dropped to 2.9% in just two episodes.

By now, SBS is the winner since it got rid of dramas on Wednesdays and Thursdays and replaced them with the TV show "Trot God". SBS abolished Wednesday-Thursday dramas after "Secret Boutique" in November last year. It also replaced Monday-Tuesday dramas with entertainment shows with since "Good Casting" at 10PM. Friday-Saturday drama "Backstreet Rookie" is currently running at 8% in viewership and it looks the most successful in terms of organization.

While analysis shows that TV watching has increased due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the poor results of Wednesday-Thursday dramas stand out. It may also be so because of the effect of trot TV shows aired in other broadcasting stations at the same time.

Other than "Trot God" there are TV shows on TV CHOSUN that draw attention.

However, there is a need to pay attention to viewers' criticism that there are 'no dramas worth watching'. tvN "Hospital Playlist" was broadcast on a Thursday which is a tough time slot but it managed to achieve great results. In the end, it's the quality of the drama that awaits the choice of viewers.

Following "CHIP-IN" is Im Soo-hyang and Ji Soo's "When I Was the Most Beautiful", "Into The Ring" is followed by Go Ara and Lee Jae-wook's "Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol", "Was It Love" is followed by "Private Lives" and "Flower of Evil" is followed by "Tale of the Nine Tailed". Will they be able to save Wednesday-Thursday dramas from the black hole?
