2NE1 Eyeing Out the US Market

YG Entertainment announced through their official website on August 17th that the ladies of 2NE1 had worked with artist Will.i.am from the popular group Black Eyed Peas for a potential US album. After seeing one of 2NE1's music videos through a close friend, Will.i.am decided then and there that he wanted to help in producing music with them.

The ladies were in complete shock as they described the situation to be "like a dream". The k-pop group met with Will.i.am in Los Angeles and in London for a total of three sessions over the course of three weeks. All in all, ten English songs were recorded.

Yang Hyun-suk, head of YG, stated that it was simply unprecedented for Will.i.am to have been involved in so many songs. He added that these songs will be saved up for potential release in the US. Yang noted that despite the fact that none of the girls of 2NE1 are fluent in English, the recordings went rather smoothly.

So when exactly can US fans expect to see 2NE1's music officially enter their market? Yang said that 2NE1 tackling the American music scene within this year will be difficult considering the fact that Will.i.am is busy with the Black Eyed Peas World Tour and the recording of their next album. As of now, there's no set date or plan for the girls to even attempt it. The company head did mention that they will need to talk it over with Will.i.am before any plans are set. However, the company wants to avoid the girls staying in the US for a long period of time as much as possible.?

Also in recent news, the girls are expected to make their long-awaited comeback in Korea in September. Not wanting to jeopardize the quality of their activities here, 2NE1 is eyeing out early 2011 for any international activities. There are plans for them to take on the Japanese market around that time so if all things go according to plan, YG is hoping to juggle acts in all three countries -- Korea, Japan, and the US -- within that relatively short period of time.?
