Andre Kim Holds S/S Fashion Show in Beijing

Home of the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven and the 2008 Summer Olympics… Beijing is where Korea's renowned designer Andre Kim showcased his 2011 spring/summer collection on Monday.

[Interview : Jang Ji-yun jiyun.jang@arirang.co.kr] "More than 400 people have gathered here at the Beijing New China International Exhibition Center to witness the mystical and whimsical creations of Korea's top designer, Andre Kim".

Inspired by China's rich history and grandiose style… the veteran fashion designer's latest collection was filled with elements reminiscent of China's traditional culture.
Using silk, Andre Kim attempted to juxtapose the traditional Chinese attire with modern day designs and colors while still keeping true to his signature style.

[Interview : Andre Kim, Korean Fashion Designer] "I did create Chinese royal Kingdom's custom and culture to recreate a modern design of international atmosphere. So, even this stage, even today's fashion show, I believe I was very interested in harmonizing ancient Chinese culture and art with modern futuristic culture together".

And as always the 76-year-old eccentric designer tried to incorporate a wide range of concepts into his garments ranging from futuristic themes to Renaissance-inspired designs and traditional Korean patterns tracing their roots back to ancient royal kingdoms.
Pastel colors of pink, blue and yellow appeared to be the most prominent this season and as for textiles Andre Kim frequently used tweed and silk.
Looking at the fashion show itself it was based on another trying love story between two lovers, this time played by actor Jung Gyu-woon and actress Lee Soo-kyung.
Although, Andre Kim is already widely known for his magnificent works and his dedication to promoting Korean culture through fashion it was surprising to see that he had such a strong fan base in China as well.

[Interview : Gang Hoon-tien, Chinese reporter] "Hallyu, or the boom of Korean pop culture, is still very big in China and Andre Kim is a big part of that. And since he has had many fashion shows in China, his brand is very well known".

When people in attendance were asked about the popularity of Andre Kim's often over-the-top gowns in China they said because more Chinese women now enjoy the party scene his clothes are high in demand.
