I believe the writer and producer wanted to make a film which is consistent with known historical facts. While the love story is an added perk I believe this is only secondary.

pontianak, just a piece of reminder: don't make anyone believe in what you said. jumong is not purely good looks and colorfulness...there are some stories that is of far valuable and can be applicable in everyday life

no wonder, jumong became a monster hit in Korea. Hwangjini is also beautiful but as far as highest ratings garnered is concerned, it is even defeated by Princess Hours
