Jo was found dead in the bathroom of his girlfriend's apartment in Seoul on the 6th. According to the police, Jo sent a text to his girlfriend before he died saying, "Take care without me".

Jo's death brings up the death of his ex-wife Choi Jin-sil in 2008 and his brother-in-law Choi Jin-yeong in 2010.

Top star Choi Jin-sil of the 90's who was famous for her dramas was under the spotlight when she married Jo Seong-min in the year 2000. However, his abuse led to their divorce in 2004 and Choi Jin-sil killed herself in the year 2008 while she suffered severe depression.

Her brother Choi Jin-yeong was also an actor and singer who was well known but also chose the same fate as his sister a year and a half later.

Many are worried about Hwan-hee and Joon-hee, the off-springs of Choi Jin-sil and Jo Seong-min. They have suffered the death of their mother, uncle and now father.
