"Detective K" sold to France, Vietnam at the Hong Kong FILMART

France and Vietnam are the latest additions to the list of countries that will show Korean blockbuster film, "Detective K". The deals were sealed at the Hong Kong International Film and Television Market (FILMART) that took place from March 21 to 24, 2011.

According to Showbox, the film's international distributor and financier, France has acquired full distribution rights while Vietnam acquired theatrical rights. Full rights means that the comedy-mystery film will be distributed in theaters, television (including Pay Per View, Video On Demand), videos (DVD, Blu-ray), and Internet. Other countries that have acquired full distribution rights are China, Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Meanwhile, negotiations with other countries are still underway.

"Detective K", dubbed as Korea's version of Sherlock Holmes, follows the adventures of Joseon's top detective (Kim Myung-min) and his sidekick (Oh Dal-soo) in their secret investigation of mysterious deaths believed to be linked to corruption activities of high-ranking government officials. The movie directed by Kim Seok-yoon was released domestically on January 27 and was consistently on top of the charts for more than three weeks, with almost 4.8 million admissions to date.

The Hong Kong FILMART is "Detective K"'s second film market after the Berlin Film Festival's Europen Film Market in February. Showbox said, the movie will also be sold at the Cannes Film Festival's film market in May.
