Girls' Generation Sing on Late Show

Leading K-pop outfit Girls' Generation have been doing the rounds in the U.S. and raising awareness of their talents as they increasingly go global by appearing on famous talk shows there.

On CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman", which aired on Tuesday night, the band sung an English version of "The Boys" to celebrate the eve of the show's 30th anniversary. They also appeared on ABC's morning talk show "Live! with Kelly" on Wednesday morning.

Letterman introduced Girls' Generation as "a very popular group from South Korea who have just released their first album in America". The group performed with the CBS Orchestra, the show's official band.

"The Late Show requires singers to sing accompanied by its band, so 'The Boys' had to be rearranged a little to suit the orchestra", said the group's management agency, SM Entertainment.

After the performance, Letterman thanked the girls in Korean, and gave them as a gift an American football that another guest on the show, actor Bill Murray, kicked during a promotional event for this Sunday's Super Bowl.

Girls' Generation released "The Boys" as their debut album in the U.S. on Jan. 17, and it is now ranked second on the Billboard Chart's "world album" category. Hundreds of the band's U.S. fans waited and cheered for them at the Ed Sullivan Theater in Manhattan, where the Late Show is recorded.

Also on Wednesday morning, fans sang and cheered for Girls' Generation outside ABC studio, and guest host Howie Mandel said he was surprised at the bustling crowd he encountered on his way to the studio.
