[HanCinema's News] "Air Murder" and "The Anchor" Receive Lukewarm Opening Weekend
By William Schwartz | Published on
According to figures released by the Korean Film Council on April 25th, neither "Air Murder" nor "The Anchor" were able to top the South Korean box office in their opening weekend. "Air Murder" slightly edged out "The Anchor" with 64,844 admissions to 61,452 admissions for the three day period of Friday/Saturday/Sunday, but "The Anchor" is still ahead overall because it was released on April 20th rather than April 22nd. Consequently, "The Anchor" has already passed the 100,000 admissions mark.

Both South Korean films put together couldn't equal the admissions of the latest Fantastic Beasts movie from Hollywood, now in its second weekend, though the big budget picture is unlikely to break a million admissions. Conditions in the South Korean film market remain poor for all theatrical releases and not just the South Korean ones. "Air Murder" is a legal drama dealing with the real-life humidifer disinfectant disaster, while "The Anchor" deals with a news anchor who gets wrapped up in a thrilling mystery.
