[HanCinema's News] "Citizen of a Kind" Opens in First Place at South Korean Box Office

According to new figures released from the Korean Film Council, "Citizen of a Kind" had the most admissions of any film in its debut at the South Korean box office on January 24th. The movie stars Ra Mi-ran as a ruined small business owner who falls victim to a voice phishing scam and goes to China with her compatriots to hunt the relevant criminal organization down. "Citizen of a Kind" earned 60,118 admissions on its opening day for 91,249 admissions overall including early screenings.

"Alienoid: Return to the Future" was second place with 18,904 admissions for an overall total of 1,165,931 admissions, a disappointing end for a franchise that had once been predicted to score at least seven million admissions in its original installment. "Citizen of a Kind" is based on a real-life incident from 2016. It has received positive self-reported user ratings in South Korea, with a 96% score on CGVs website and a 9.5 rating on the Lotte Cinema website.
