[HanCinema's News] "Divine Fury" Sets Record for Park Seo-joon on Opening Day
By William Schwartz | Published on
On its first day at the South Korean box office "The Divine Fury" earned 380,166 admissions. This extremely strong opening puts it above the already impressive 308,298 admissions set by Park Seo-joon's previous blockbuster, "Midnight Runners", which went on to earn over five million admissions at the South Korean box office.

In spite of this apparent success "The Divine Fury" is trailing significantly behind "Exit - Movie" in terms of overall ticket sales. However, at present it seems more likely that this is more a function of "Exit - Movie" being exceptionally popular than it is a matter of audiences finding fault with "The Divine Fury". Social media comments for both movies have been extremely positive.
Even though the two films are competing against each other, both are arising in a fairly stagnant marketplace that has been led by imported foreign movies since "Parasite" lost the pole position back in June. More major domestic releases are coming in August as well.
