By William Schwartz | Published on
While "Exhuma" no longer rules the box office at home, the occult horror film is setting records abroad for a South Korean film. "Exhuma" is now the all-time most popular South Korean film to be released in Laos. Following its April 4th premiere, by April 11th "Exhuma" overcame both "Peninsula" and "Train to Busan" to earn the title. A similar story unfolded in Cambodia, with "Exhuma" marking the same achievement only two days after its April 18th premiere.

The Cambodian distribution company Purple Plan credited word of mouth praise from fans with creating this achievement, also mentioning the Khmer dub of the film as effective for drawing in viewers. Purple Plan also described the occult horror concept of "Exhuma" as fresh and distinct in terms of driving viewer interest. Elsewhere, "Exhuma" is fourth place in the North American region for South Korean films following its own April 18th release. It passed "Train to Busan" and "The Host" there.
Elsewhere, "Exhuma" is also the fourth highest performing South Korean film in Malaysia, and the best performing South Korean film in Hong Kong since "Peninsula" in 2020. "Exhuma" is also already the best performing South Korean film of all time in Indonesia and Vietnam, where it continues to break records every day. It's had 2.6 million in admissions in Indonesia and 2.4 million admissions in Vietnam as of this writing.
"Exhuma" is still awaiting release in many regions. It is currently confirmed to come out elsewhere in south Asia in May. India, Turkey, and Russia also all have May release dates for the film. "Exhuma" has earned 11,828,169 admissions in South Korea since it premiere on February 22nd.
