[HanCinema's News] "Good Partner" Screenwriter Offers Surprise Endorsement of "Hidden Face"

The new South Korean film "Hidden Face" is an intense, frightening thriller with characters engaging in disturbing, psychotic behavior. So it was with some surprise that screenwriter Choi Yoo-na recently endorsed the realism of the title. Choi Yoo-na is best known as the screenwriter of the popular legal drama "Good Partner" from earlier this year. However, she has also worked as a divorce lawyer for thirteen years, and has active social media accounts and TV appearances in this capacity.

Choi Yoo-na claimed to have watched the movie only for casual enjoyment, not in a professional capacity. However, Choi Yoo-na that much of the film's more unsettling beheavior, such as watching a romantic partner via home cameras to verify their truthfulness are quite common in her work. Choi Yoo-na also noted that such recordings are illegal as are tracking devices when used without the consent of the person under surveillance.
Choi Yoo-na did qualify her statements, however, by stating that she had never heard of a case of a person hiding themselves in a house to spy on their partner's private life. Choi Yoo-na claimed that her real-life legal experience enhanced her enjoyment of the film, allowing her to analyze events of the film from a legal perspective. "Hidden Face" premiered in South Korean theaters on November 20th and has earned 158,228 admissions in its first three days of availability.
