[HanCinema's News] "Hijack 1971" Leads in First Day at South Korean Box Office

According to figures released earlier today by the Korean Film Council, the 1971 era crime thriller "Hijack 1971" earned 99,934 admissions at the South Korean box office on its opening day, June 21st. This makes "Hijack 1971" the best performing South Korean film for that day. Self-reporting figures from theater-goers are also quite positive, with some 95% of respondents on CGV's website giving the Ha Jung-woo led film a positive rating.

However, "Hijack 1971" will almost certainly lose the overall weekend box office crown to Inside Out 2 from the United States. The animated sequel had over twice the box office admissions that "Hijack 1971" did in its second weekend. "Hijack 1971" will also face tough competition in the weeks to come, with the demonic romance comedy "Handsome Guys" coming out on June 26th and the DMZ action film "Escape" coming out the following weekend on July 3rd.
