[HanCinema's News] Oh Gyeong-hwa Grabs Attention With Two Noteworthy Supporting Roles
By William Schwartz | Published on
Last year, Oh Gyeong-hwa had a leading role in the independent film "A Tour Guide" behind Lee Seol. The actress, best known for homely roles, has attracted unexpected attention for making the most of this limited niche in two ongoing television dramas with roles she secured on the strength of the acting spotlight "A Tour Guide" gave her. In "Dear Hyeri" she plays the work colleague of the title character, whose rough exterior belies a very sweet personality.

But in "Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born" Oh Gyeong-hwa plays the older sister Jeong-ja of the main character played by Kim Tae-ri. In this case, Jeong-ja works as a fishmongerer to help support the dreams of her younger family members. Both roles are quite positive, and even emotional, in their focus as a backup. Though not the star of either production, Oh Gyeong-hwa has emerged as a fan favorite performer because her characters are the friends and family many viewers aspire to have or be.
Yet at the same time, the gap between the two characters is noteworthy enough that many viewers were surprised at the spectrum of roles Oh Gyeong-hwa can play. The similarities are only especially obvious when the two roles are placed side by side, as her makeup, hair, and general countenance changes radically between the two dramas. Oh Gyeong-hwa has no confirmed projects after these two- there is little doubt, however, that her profile has only improved.
