[HanCinema's News] Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo's Officially Divorced

On July 22nd at 10 in the morning at Seoul Family Court Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo's divorce was finalized. The speed with which this was accomplished was a big surprise to legal observers, who anticipated at least three months would be necessary. Song Joong-ki's initial filing was only a month ago.

The quick progress was accomplished mainly by a lack of additional filings. There was little apparent conflict over alimony or property division between the couple. But most surprisingly, given that the two are a celebrity couple, there was no official filing for either side requesting a confidentiality agreement.

This means that, in theory, either Song Joong-ki or Song Hye-kyo could dish about the issues that fractured the marriage in a public forum and face no penalty for doing so. The couple would have almost certainly been warned of such an eventuality by their lawyers. Apparently the couple trusted each other enough, and wanted the divorce to happen quickly enough, that they were willing to forgo clauses like this that would prolong the divorce process.

In any case such an attitude is consistent with the public attitude both Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo have taken toward the marriage's dissolution, where they have agreed that both sides made mistakes and that they wanted to move on. In court, as in public, their agreement has been stated indirectly through representatives.
