[HanCinema's News] "Waiting for Rain" Takes the Lead at the South Korean Box Office
By William Schwartz | Published on
According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "Waiting For Rain" has topped all other films in its first day of availability at the South Korean box office. The romantic melodrama starring Kang Ha-neul and Chun Woo-hee in the leading roles is now well-positioned to take the number one spot over the weekend. However, with only 29,853 admissions, the film is unlikely to mark a serious resurgence in fortunes at the box office.

"Recalled" has fallen down to third in the overall rankings, with admissions of 16,877 admissions by comparison. While "Recalled" initially attracted attention for an unusually high reservation rate in the wake of various controversies surrounding lead actress Seo Yea-ji, its cumulative total for admissions is only 180,297. Nevertheless, it should easily bypass the 200,000 admission mark over the weekend.
