Hip-Hop Star Sues Doubters of High-Flying Academic Credentials

Prosecutors have begun investigating a group of netizens who have accused Tablo of the Korean hip hop group Epik High of faking his academic credentials.

Tablo, whose real name is Daniel Seon-woong Lee, filed a libel lawsuit against 22 people for posting comments on the Internet casting doubt on his Stanford University degree and spreading rumors that his grades were fabricated.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has asked police to track the Internet protocol addresses of the 22.

Meanwhile, a group of people submitted a petition to the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office seeking an investigation into allegations that Tablo lied about his school records and dual citizenship. The petition was handed over to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office, which is weighing whether to investigate.

Tablo is famous not only as a rapper but for finishing his bachelor's and master's degrees at Stanford in just three years and six months, but Internet users in Korea questioned the validity of that feat. That prompted Tablo to publish his diploma and academic records, but the doubters refused to back down, claiming the documents are fabricated.
