In commemoration of Korea's Independence Day on August 15th, singer Kim Jang-hoon and actor Song Il-kook will be showing off their swimming skills.
This Wednesday marks the anniversary of Korea's independence from Japan's colonial rule. In honor of this, along with making a statement that the Dokdo Islets belong to Korea, Kim, Song, and several dozen other volunteers will be making the 55-kilometer swim together from Korea's coastline to the eastern islets of Dokdo.
The swim will be conducted in a relay-like fashion, involving an actually passing of the baton among the swimmers every few kilometers, until the final swimmer reaches Dokdo.
The event is scheduled from August 13th at 6 AM to August 15th at 2 PM. A press conference will be held at the swim's end, involving everyone singing the anthem of Korea's freedom fighters.
