"Korean Wave is an opportunity to better the national image"

"Korean Wave is the outcome of our effort to promote uniqueness amid prevalence of foreign influence. It is an opportunity. We should put forward an effort to make use of this opportunity as more than a temporary trend to better the national image in the international competition with a long-term perspective".
They are words by Professor Lee O-young from the special lecture in the "Korean Wave to the Future, to the World" event hosted by KITA the at COEX Auditorium on March 9.
Lee said, "The general perception on Korean people by Japanese people has changed on the back of Korean Wave that played a significant role in changing the national image. It is the result of changing world-wide trend in all sectors in life including the popular culture. We should now put forward the effort to fully utilize Korean Wave in trade and politics as well".
President Kim Jeong-ryul of Gravity in the process of world invasion with Ragnarok Online and CEO Sohng Seung-hwan of PMC Production known to us for its work Nanta (English title: Cooking) gave presentations on their business success following Lee's lecture. Kim said that Gravity was listed on NASDAQ some twenty days ago. He pointed to high quality, localized marketing, and product development in connection with publishing, mobile, and animation as the primary force behind success of Ragnarok Online.
CEO Sohng Seung-hwan of PMC Production talked about how Nanta had been put on stages all across the world since the first performance in 1997. Efforts in overcoming the fund limitation compared to Hollywood works and language barrier were concentrated particularly in the planning stage. The non-verbal performance was spiced with uniquely Korean flavor and Eastern material. It now represents the nation's cultural sector to many foreigners.
Approximately 1,200 people including the KITA Chairman Kim Jae-cheol and a number of national assemblypersons attended this event.
