Synopsis
"You and Everything Else" chronicles the journey of two friends who have an enduring, complicated love-hate relationship. They find their lives intricately linked as they cross each other's paths through various phases in life. Ryoo Eun-joong, a charming and honest woman who draws people in with her personable candor, is played by Kim Go-eun ("Exhuma", "Love in the Big City", "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God", "Little Women"). Eun-joong's closest friend and rival in her life, Cheon Sang-yeon, is portrayed by Park Ji-hyun ("Hidden Face", "Do You Like Brahms", "Reborn Rich"). Eun-joong meets Sang-yeon in elementary school and feels both care and envy toward her for her wealthy background and natural talents. They become best friends, each feeling the greatest love and worst hate for the other. During their teens and even throughout their twenties and thirties, the bond between Eun-joong and Sang-yeon changes over time. Finally at age 42, their paths cross once more with Eun-joong having become a drama screenwriter and Sang-yeon a successful film producer. However, Sang-yeon has terminal cancer, and she asks Eun-joong to accompany her on a trip to end her own life. The moments they shared throughout their lives unfold before them, showing how each had the greatest impact on the life of the other. Kim Gun-woo ("The Glory") plays Kim Sang-hak, a charming older college student and an important figure in both women's lives. His character, a passionate photographer, plays a crucial part in the complex relationship between Eun-joong and Sang-yeon. Directed by Jo Young-min ("Do You Like Brahms", "The Interest of Love") and written by Song Hye-jin-I ("My Sweet Seoul", "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes"), both acclaimed for their emotionally powerful works, "You and Everything Else" will delicately unravel the timeline shared by two friends from childhood to the complexities of modern adulthood.
The story traces their friendship from their school days to their twenties and thirties, showing how their bond changes over time. At 42 years old, they reunite in the face of a profound challenge: Sang-yeon's battle with cancer. The touching narrative delves into their shared past, their separate paths to becoming a screenwriter and a successful film director, and the enduring impact they've had on each other's lives.
