Synopsis
There are people who are treated as outcasts, repeatedly dismissed, and pushed to the margins just because they are temporary workers or union members. However, they do not get intimidated. Although capital may pass over their existence and permanent employees ignore them, they heal and overcome their difficulties over and over again. They choose a path with a dream to live as human beings. A story about people who are walking their paths with surefooted steps.
In January 2007, Hae-yeon who worked in subcontractor of GM DAEWOO (current GM KOREA) was fired because she complained to the outsourcing. Something similar with her case happened over and over again in the company. Employees who were laid off made a contingent workers’ union. And then, the company fired union members. The union set up a tent and went into a sit-in protest demanding reinstatement. In addition to it, they started a sit-in protest at a steel tower also. The management suggested to the union a selective reinstatement when the protest dragged out for too long. After thinking it over thoroughly, the union accepted the proposal. After that, people returning to work withdrew from the union. In December 2010, the rest started a sit-in protest at a main gate of the company. Two months later, the company announced a reinstatement of everyone except Hae-yeon. Then, a conflict was created.
