Lee Byung-hun to Star in "Nambeol"

Lee Byung-hun has officially confirmed his appearance in the martial arts action film "Nambeol".

"Nambeol" is set in the early Joseon era and follows nine warriors of different abilities and social classes as they journey to Tsushima Island to rescue captives kidnapped by Japanese pirates.
Lee Byung-hun will play the leader of the warriors, Im Eok. The character is a man with sharp judgment and strong convictions forged on the battlefield, leading a life-risking mission to save Joseon captives detained on Tsushima Island.
The film will be directed by Lee Mo-gae, the cinematographer acclaimed for his distinctive visual style in films such as "12.12: The Day", "Exhuma", and "Hunt". After winning numerous cinematography awards, this project will mark his directorial debut. "Nambeol" is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
Since debuting in 1991 through KBS's open talent recruitment program, 이병헌 has established himself as one of Korea's most acclaimed actors across both film and television. His notable works include "JSA - Joint Security Area", "Masquerade",
"Inside Men", as well as the dramas "Mr. Sunshine" and "IRIS".
He has also gained global recognition through his Hollywood career and continues to expand his international influence, most recently appearing in the Netflix series "Squid Game".
