"Piano Prism" (2021)
Directed by Oh Jae-hyeong
With Oh Jae-hyeong,...
Synopsis
In a cramped space full of miscellaneous objects, a man in his pajamas laboriously moves the piano from one wall to the other. When he projects his video on the wall by the piano, dark blue waves ripple over his figure playing the piano. This magical opening takes a leap from a scruffy reality to an artistic fantasy. Director Oh Jae-hyeong, a painter-turned-filmmaker who is now trying to become a pianist, attempts a unique audio-visual performance that combines video and piano performance. Although it looks like a difficult experimental film, this film is a friendly and witty personal essay about the director's artistic practice. One day, he is asked to perform a solo recital at "The House Concert", a classical music venue, and Piano Prism contains his preparation process. The brilliant multi-artist Oh Jae-hyeong undergoes trials and errors to finally reach the synthesis of painting, video, and music, and this film presents the ultimate artistic experience. KANG Sowon
