According to an entertainment industry source on the 14th, Park Gyu-young will star as the heroine of the new drama "Involuntary Romance". The series is an office romance that follows two people with a troubled past who reunite as boss and subordinate, engaging in a back-and-forth dynamic that eventually flips their relationship on its head.
In the drama, Park Gyu-young plays a character who once served as Na Jeong-seok's superior in the military, but now becomes an employee working under him after he rises to become a CEO. The story focuses on the reversal in their relationship as the two, who first met during their military days, unexpectedly cross paths again at the company.
Park Gyu-young has previously taken on tough or intense roles in projects like "Sweet Home" and "Squid Game" 2 & 3. Although she did appear in romantic comedies such as "A Good Day to be a Dog" and "Dali and Cocky Prince", the relatively low ratings meant the genre didn't leave a strong impression on viewers. As a result, there is growing interest in whether "Involuntary Romance" will allow her to fully showcase her charms.
"Involuntary Romance" has already confirmed Park Hyung-sik as the male lead. Park Hyung-sik plays Na Jeong-seok, an arrogant startup CEO who unexpectedly reunites with his former military senior, now his subordinate, played by Park Gyu-young. Park Hyung-sik has consistently delivered strong ratings and buzz with dramas like "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon", "Doctor Slump", and "Buried Hearts", and is especially known for excelling in romantic comedy roles. Many are curious whether the 'Park Hyung-sik effect' will work its magic once again in "Involuntary Romance".
The drama is currently in discussions for distribution on Netflix.
