South Korean cinema and series have continued to captivate global audiences, particularly due to their ability to reinvent the codes of storytelling and suspense. In the horror genre, Korean dramas have established themselves as an essential reference, blending occult traditions, psychological tensions, and striking aesthetics. INSOMNIA thus continues its ambition to offer the best of the genre to its subscribers.
Mediawan Thematics is no stranger to such initiatives, having already established synergies with major K-content distribution players, with a focus on the K-pop phenomenon for its other streaming service EXPLORE, dedicated to documentaries.
Iconic series coming soon from CJ ENM
Following the success of Monstrous, offered exclusively on the platform in 2022, INSOMNIA will enrich its catalog with two new successful Korean dramas, previously unreleased in France, embodying all the richness and originality of the K-horror genre:
- "Priest", a series (16x60'), directed by Ryoo Seung-jin-I and Kim Jong-hyeon, in which an exorcist and an elite surgeon team up to fight against evil entities, will be available from July 1st.
- "The Guest - Drama", in which we follow a shaman, an exorcist priest, and a detective in their fight against an evil spirit called The Guest. The series (16x60') directed by Kim Hong-seon-I will be available from September 1st.
Launched in 2021, INSOMNIA is now available within the offerings of Canal+, Free, SFR, Molotov, and Amazon Prime Video Channels. With a catalog consisting mainly of blockbusters and works previously unreleased in France, renewed each month, INSOMNIA is the richest and most ambitious offering on this theme. By integrating Korean content into its offering, INSOMNIA responds to a growing demand for new and immersive horrific experiences. The partnership with CJ ENM is part of a desire to expand its catalog with bold productions from around the world.
"Korean horror has established itself on the international scene thanks to its unique approach to the genre, oscillating between psychological terror and narratives deeply rooted in local culture. Through this partnership with CJ ENM, we are proud to welcome major K-horror series to INSOMNIA and thus strengthen our offering with increasingly premium content", says Sonia Latoui, Deputy General Manager in charge of content at Mediawan Thematics.
Diane Min, Head of Sales (Europe) from Content Distribution Division at CJ ENM, stated, "As a global IP powerhouse, CJ ENM's primary mission, since day 1, has been the presentation of a versatile content portfolio to global fans. Thanks to this partnership with Mediawan Thematics, we are glad that our well-made horror genre titles can be showcased to broader audiences. Via "Priest" and "The Guest - Drama", filled with unprecedented narratives and a grand universe, we hope French viewers experience the 'K-horror quintessence'."
