Rain in the Running for Time 100

K-pop star Rain has been nominated as one of the world's 100 most influential people by U.S. news magazine Time.

The singer is listed in the Artists and Entertainers category in the illustrious company of nine others including director Ang Lee, singer Daddy Yankee, Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, and Actors Zhang Ziyi and George Clooney.

The weekly designates the so-called Time 100 in five different categories every year, but this year for the first time it has asked visitors to the magazine's webpage to vote on who they think are the most influential. As of Wednesday morning, with 32 percent of the vote, Rain was in second place in the Artists and Entertainers category.

"Brokeback Mountain" director Ang Lee was in first place with 34 percent, and following Rain were Daddy Yankee (11 percent), Zhang Ziyi (6 percent) and George Clooney (5 percent).

Voting for each category lasts one week and votes are being taken in the Artists and Entertainers category this week.

The other categories are "Heroes & Icons", "Leaders & Revolutionaries", "Builders & Titans", and "Scientists and Thinkers". Other Koreans that have made it onto the list include the now disgraced cloning scientist Hwang Woo-suk, Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
