"Seo Taiji is a liar?" why deny past marriage rumor?

Actress Lee Ji-ah and singer Seo Taiji revealed that the rumor was true through their managements.

If this was true, Seo Taiji is at risk of becoming a liar. He had continuously been denying the rumor about his marriage all this while.
Seo Taiji was swept in a rumor of marriage in December 1997 right after he declared retirement. Even his mother denied it.
However, Lee Ji-ah's management Key East revealed that they got married in 1997 and currently claiming alimony and division of possessions through divorce.
If it is according to Key East, Seo Taiji would have been lying even to his fans that were curious about him. Why he neglected lawsuit with Lee Ji-ah is also in question.
