Yoon Kyun-sang is acting in the role of Hong Gil-dong, a real character which existed in the Joseon times.
"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" re-highlights the historical figure of Hon Gil-dong who lived a generation of violence.
Hong Gil-gong struggled to save the starving people and with his leadership, spoke out for those who were born poor. The drama looks at Hong Gil-dong in this way but from a different aspect.
Yoon Kyun-sang's role of Hong Gil-dong is one who was born poor but had a wide heart and was loyal. He had no greed for power nor wealth.
Yoon Kyun-sang gained popularity through the tvN show "Three Meals A Day". His transformation as the great Hong Gil-dong is highly anticipated.
Yoon Kyun-sang won the New Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards last year. He starred in dramas like "Faith", "Pinocchio", "Six Flying Dragons" and "Doctors".
Some say the Hong Gil-dong character and Yoon Kyun-sang synchronize well and that Yoon Kyun-sang is an outstanding actor.
Yoon Kyun-sang said, "I felt pressured at first as this is my first lead role but I am curious about this historical character and I am researching him more".
Meanwhile, "Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" is directed by Kim Ji-man and written by Hwang Jin-yeong.
"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People" will be released next year.
