Synopsis
In colonial Joseon, ordinary life has long been shattered. Sang-cheol, an independence fighter fighting to reclaim his homeland from the Japanese, is shot during an operation and stumbles into the theater of a traveling theater troupe, saving his life. With the help of his fellow troupes, he receives treatment from Yeon-hwa, a nurse at the Imperial Hospital. As he recovers, he observes that the Gyeongseong Traveling Theater Troupe, despite being Korean, is making a living by staging performances praising the Emperor and the Japanese Empire with the help of Japanese collaborators. Sang-cheol's feelings are deeply complex.
Sang-cheol, who risked his life for his country's independence; the members of the Gyeongseong Touring Troupe, who must perform on stage under the Japanese flag; Yeon-hwa, who treats Sang-cheol, an independence fighter, but lacks the luxury of pursuing a grand cause...
Thrown before the arduous wheels of time, ordinary people cling to their already shattered daily lives and make their own choices. Can you not regret the fate this choice imposes?
