I believe the writer and producer wanted to make a film which is consistent with known historical facts. While the love story is an added perk I believe this is only secondary.

for characterization, jumong is much powerful. even the supporting casts play their roles powerfully.

no wonder, jumong became a monster hit in Korea. Hwangjini is also beautiful but as far as highest ratings garnered is concerned, it is even defeated by Princess Hours
