Actor Gong Myung responded to a question about how he felt about Netflix's movie "Love Untangled". "Actually, I cried when I saw it for the first time. It was that much fun and I was immersed in it", Gong Myung said in a recent interview with Daily Sports.

"Love Untangled" tells the story of 19-year-old Se-ri (Shin Eun-soo), who has a curly hair complex, intertwining with Yoon-seok (Gong Myung), a transfer student, ahead of her lifetime confession in 1998. The film, which was released on the 29th of last month, ranked third in the Netflix global film (non-English) category with 6.2 million viewers in just three days.

"I liked the fact that it was refreshing and harmless. It's cute and lovely. I was also attracted to the fact that it's a youth romance movie, but not a remake. I also liked this movie because I'm in my 30s and I could be a student. So when I was offered the idea, I thought I should do it no matter what (laughs)".

Yoon-seok, played by Gong Myung, is a transfer student from Seoul, a year older than his classmates. Unexpectedly, he joins Se-ri's confession campaign, and he begins to open the closed door of his heart little by little through her. Gong Myung said, "As the director said, I look like a puppy, but the cynical look in it resembles me".

"Yoon-seok is similar to the character I've been doing, but it was a challenge in my own way. One of them was to play youth in my 30s. To be honest, I was just happy at first, but when I was filming, I was very sensitive. I kept monitoring and checking my facial expressions. I think I made it by constantly thinking about it rather than being comfortable".

Gong Myung's worries and efforts are not just due to the difference in actual age from Yoon-seok. Unlike other characters who have always been bright, Yoon-seok has a complex narrative and an unstable inner side. Gong Myung put special effort into conveying this aspect of Yoon-seok to the viewers.

"I spent the whole time filming like Yoon-seok, thinking about his situation. I especially paid a lot of attention to the narrative with his mom. There's not much explanation, but I also thought that Yoon-seok's inner sadness and worries would come out well when the story was seen well. So I focused on this part from the beginning".

On the other hand, regarding his romance with Se-ri, he said, "Yoon-seok thinks nothing can't be done without effort, and I agree with him", and added, "If you look at the results, Yoon-seok's strategy is correct".

"While filming, I recalled myself as a student a lot", Gong Myung said. "I was an introvert. I didn't even talk to my friends that much". He smiled awkwardly at the nickname 'Guri F4' that his younger brother, NCT Do-young, revealed in an entertainment show.

"It's not a lie. I debuted with Seo Kang-joon in Surprise, an actor group, and I wasn't that famous in the area like him. When I entered first grade of high school, my seniors would come down to check me out. I would admit it was popular, but not so popular (laughs)".

"Love Untangled" is also Gong Myung's fourth work this year. Starting with the drama "Way Back Love" in April, Gong Myung has been presenting "Second Shot at Love" and "Mercy for None". He explained, "The works that I have filmed since I was discharged from the military have come out one after another".

"Personally, I'm glad I got the opportunity to show as many different sides as possible to those who like and look forward to me. This is also my goal as an actor. There are many things that I haven't shown as an actor yet, and I'm also excited about how I'll change. I'll come back with more various sides".
